SVE: Distributed Video Processing at Facebook Scale IBD Report by Fabrice Ouedraogo
Prior to SVE, Facebook initial processing system was a Monolithic Encoding Script (MES). It was hard to maintain and monitor in the presence of multiple different and evolving applications requirements for encoding and transcoding. But most importantly, it used a batch-oriented sequential processing pipeline.
The central idea in SVE is to process video data in a streaming fashion, in parallel, as
videos move through the pipeline.Before designing SVE, they examined existing parallel processing frameworks
including batch processing systems like MapReduce, Dryad that assume the data to
be processed already exists and is accessible. (not optimise for time-to-sharing), and
Streaming processing systems like Storm, Spark Streaming, that overlap uploading
and processing, but are designed for processing continuous queries instead of
discrete events.(don’t support the overload control policies and custom DAG per task
model). So they had no choice left than build they own streaming video engine.
The impact of multimedia (audio and
videos) distribution plot at the storage level (on going project)
The purpose of this research is to present an optimal and sustainable storage
architecture for multimedia (audio and videos) processing inspired
from Big Companies (Facebook, Youtube, Netflix and Spotify) to
Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) willing to set up similar platform.
Cloud Swiss Knife
This was a final project for my bachelor studies in taiwan where I had to implement a code editor combined to a color picker and a music player to allow users to code from any computer anywhere. The code was hosted in the cloud and with an authentification system retreive the user's saved code and allow him to continue where he left from previously.
The Fifth Roomate
This project is an AI based project for the course of AI at my 3rd year of Bachelor at Chiao Tung University. The idea is to implement an AI to help people conversate in dormitories. How it works? First type in the request to the programm, then it will respond orally. THe underlying architecture was: A rapsberry Pi 3 running the text to voice processing connected in a local network to the computer which serves as an input of keyed in requests.
For the student service class, we had to go help kids in theird daily chinese learning proces. It was a nice experience working with kids at the early stage of their lives that I will never forget.
